Beagles, and their larger cousin the Foxhound, are scent hounds – bred to track their quarry through thick undergrowth. Beagle-type dogs have been around for 2,500 years, but the modern breed was established in the 1830s. Thanks to their even temper and intelligence, Beagles have become popular family pets, and they are generally very good with children. I find Beagles lovely to draw – portraits in coloured pencil, especially, bring out best in their tri-colour markings. Find out how to commission your Beagle pencil portrait here.
